International Women’s Day celebrations across our ZS offices continued in Los Angeles where ZSers discovered gender equality knows no age at an event hosted by the Women’s Leadership Initiative group.
After watching an inspirational video about what it means to “be bold for change”—the global theme for this year’s International Women’s Day—and writing postcards to women that have inspired them, ZSers were joined by a representative from Girls on the Run. This national nonprofit organization encourages girls to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others.
Girls on the Run empowers girls in 3rd-5th grades to gain a better understanding of who they are and what's important to them, the value of teamwork and healthy relationships and how they can have a positive impact on the world. Running is woven into the program to inspire an appreciation for fitness and healthy habits. Each season culminates with a celebratory, non-competitive 5K race that provides girls with a sense of accomplishment and instills the value of goal setting.
To help inspire Girls on the Run participants, LA ZSers decorated popsicle sticks with motivational phrases to be shared with them during their practices, and assembled healthy snack bags to help them refuel post-run.
