As part of our global world-positive ZS Cares program, Strategy Insights & Planning Associate Ross and a team of San Francisco ZSers dedicated their time and consulting skills to help Camp Phoenix, a transformative new summer camp that empowers underprivileged middle schoolers through academics and outdoor exploration to promote personal growth and development of leadership skills.
Camp Phoenix’s goals were simple: To serve more students, expand and diversify their donor mix and ultimately amplify the impact they made on their local communities.
“I was truly inspired by the determination that the Camp Phoenix founders had for making an impact in their local community through education equality,” Ross said. “The project really resonated with me since it aligned with my beliefs.”
The ZS team started out by working with other similarly focused nonprofits to better understand their strategies for success. Ross and the other San Francisco ZSers synthesized their findings and turned them into actionable strategies that Camp Phoenix could use to meet their goals and support their growth plans for the foreseeable future.
ZS volunteers from the San Francisco office also had the opportunity to experience Camp Phoenix themselves by spending a day leading activities with campers.
