Since joining ZS in the Evanston office in October 2015, I’ve worked with pharmaceutical clients on sales and marketing projects, including commercial strategy, optimization, marketing mix, market analytics and how these factors ultimately impact the sales force.
Before my ZS journey began, I spent a year and a half in the Navy after completing the Reserve Officers’ Training Corp (ROTC) program at UCLA during my undergraduate studies. My military training taught me the importance of always taking care of your people, leading by example and getting out of your comfort zone. These lessons have served me well during my time at ZS. It’s easy to get caught up in project work, but I know that prioritizing my team and focusing on collaboration will lead to collectively successful outcomes.
Outside of work, I pursue strength, conditioning and mobility training, and I love finding new ways to challenge myself. For example, I recently started exploring cold exposure where I use cold showers, ice baths and cold-water swimming for conditioning. I’m also training for one of the SEALFIT crucible events in 2020. A few months ago, I decided to bring my hobby to work by arranging regular workout sessions for the Evanston and Chicago offices through Veterans@ZS, ZS’s global resource group for ZSers with prior military experience and their allies. We meet regularly at one of Chicago’s many parks or gyms to complete workouts designed around popular military fitness principles, while accommodating ZSers of all ability levels. Don’t worry, no ice baths required!
I originally got involved with Veterans@ZS to help bring attention to the veteran community within our firm, but it’s turned out to be a great way to connect with my peers and find an even greater sense of belonging. The workout program is relatively new, but it’s been incredibly fulfilling to share my passion, and even more special to receive the outpouring of support from my fellow ZSers.
To celebrate Veteran’s Day with a little fitness flare, I organized a “Burpees for Veterans” fundraiser to benefit the Courage Foundation, a non-profit that seeks to transform the lives of veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress (PTS) through integrative self-awareness, physical health, mental toughness, emotional resilience and spiritual well-being. I challenged the Evanston office to complete 1,000 burpees collectively and upon reaching our goal, ZS will donate $500 to the Courage Foundation. We also challenged ZS offices around the world to get in on the fun – receiving submissions from London, India and beyond.
