It’s 4:45 a.m. and the sun is breaking over the ninth-floor helipad. In my hand is a cup of coffee. In the pockets of my white coat are pages of scribbled notes, two blue pens, a red stethoscope, a pair of gloves, a roll of gauze, a granola bar and a pager. My team just finished surgical rounds and we pause to take in the quiet stillness of the early morning hour, as we know it will be the last time we sit down that day.

ZS’s San Diego office joined the firm’s other offices around the world in celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8.

Their International Women’s Day event, organized by the Women’s Leadership Initiative, encouraged ZSers in the office to gather to write postcards commending men and women in their lives who work to #PressforProgress. The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is intended to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and communities around gender inclusivity.

San Diego ZSers Whip up Treats for Ronald McDonald House

San Diego ZSers participated in the office’s first ZS Cares event of 2018 by volunteering at their local Ronald McDonald House, an organization that provides a “home-away-from-home” for families with children being treated for serious conditions at nearby hospitals, including Rady Children’s Hospital.

Our volunteers baked over 10 dozen cookies and brownies for children and families staying at the San Diego chapter’s house. Following their baking duties, the group went on a tour of the amenity-packed facility that provides over 160 meals a day for families and can house up to 48 families to learn more about its history and the community.
