Every year, the Los Angeles office partners with ZS Cares to organize office-wide events to raise money for charity. I got my first taste of these events on my second day in the office when I got to participate in the first “Dunk the Principals, Associate Principals and Managers (PAMs)” event. During my orientation week, I received emails from PAMs encouraging ZSers to donate to their funds and enticing us with outings and barbecues at their houses. Even before starting work, I was already getting a taste of the Los Angeles office culture.
I was one of the first interns to start in the Los Angeles office and worried I might feel out of place at the event, but I was welcomed with open arms. The event was a huge success and raised over $6,000 for Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing poverty issues around the world. It was great to experience the office culture and engage in fun activities with leadership. The event gave me an opportunity to break the ice with ZSers early in my internship, which was helpful as I got started on my projects.
I am now six weeks into my summer internship and can safely say that the “Dunk the PAMs” event was just the start to an incredible journey. The other interns have since joined the office and I am starting to feel at home in this welcoming, warm environment. The meaningful conversations about industry knowledge, professional development, project work and life I’ve had with ZSers of all levels in this office are a true testament to how willing people are to give back and support one another.
I was even inspired to join the office event team to broaden the impact I’m making this summer. I’m helping plan our upcoming ZS Cares pro bono hackathon as well as a casino night to raise money for Paw Works, a nonprofit animal rescue organization. It has been incredible to experience the passion and dedication ZSers have to creating impact beyond professional services. I can’t wait for the remainder of my internship and to make more memories that will surely last a lifetime.
