Through our firm-wide ZS Cares program, we encourage our people to harness their passions, apply their unique knowledge and skills and find creative ways to contribute to the greater good. Consultant Victoria, also a member of the Women’s Leadership Initiative, says ZSers in our London office did just that when they seized International Women’s Day as an opportunity to extend our “impact where it matters” tagline beyond our walls. The London office joined ZS offices around the globe to celebrate the day dedicated to women.
Maria, an associate, says the Women’s Leadership Initiative planned a fun in-office event that provided an opportunity for London ZSers to celebrate, socialize and simultaneously learn about ways to get involved with nonprofit organizations—both local and global—that provide educational and mentorship opportunities for ambitious female students.
The event, which was inspired by ZS’s deep academic roots and growing desire to create gender parity in fields such as consulting, supported Camfed—an international nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating poverty in Africa through the education and empowerment of young women.
“We set a goal of collecting enough to send one girl in Africa to school and gathered donations for Camfed,” Maria said. “By the end of the day, thanks to the contributions of fellow ZSers, we raised enough to send eight girls to school for an entire year.”
Victoria and Maria agree that seeing their colleagues’ generosity was humbling. They plan to continue promoting gender equality through their continued support of both Camfed and The Girls’ Network—a local nonprofit that aims to inspire and empower girls from the least advantaged communities by connecting them with a mentor and a network of professional female role models—throughout 2017.
