Since joining ZS in the Frankfurt office in 2013, my work has focused on supporting two major pharmaceutical clients with strategic customer management and commercial excellence. I also act as a thought leader for our European Key Account Management (KAM) capability group where I help clients develop their KAM programs.
Before coming to ZS, I researched neurovirology and neurochemistry, focusing on neurodegenerative mechanisms in diseases such as HIV dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, before working as a sales force excellence manager in the pharmaceutical industry.
In addition to my client work, I am drawn to supporting my fellow ZSers. I am passionate about mentoring others and coaching them through their ZS careers. I also serve as the leader of our inclusive LGBTQ community, Pride@ZS, for our European offices, where I aim to foster a culture of inclusivity and diversity.
Being out at ZS feels natural – it was never a question of whether I would come out at work or not because ZSers respect each other’s personal freedom and equality. My husband has always been a part of our local Frankfurt ZS community. At ZS, being gay is not a differentiator and you’re treated the same as everyone else. My advice to LGBTQ individuals considering joining ZS is don’t be afraid to show off your true colors because ZSers will appreciate who you are.
What makes ZS a great place for LGBTQ individuals to work?
At ZS, I can freely be who I am, without hesitation. Talking about life with my husband is a normal thing to do. Being honest about my personal life at work has been a key success factor of my professional development because I can fully concentrate on my work instead of hiding who I am. It gives me the intellectual freedom I need to be creative and build great relationships with my colleagues.
What’s the ally community like at ZS?
The ZS ally community is awesome and demonstrates of one of ZS’s core values: treat people right. I consider every single ZSer an ally and have never had a negative experience at ZS related to my sexual orientation. The openness at every layer of our organization is something that I truly value and has been foundational to my success story.
What’s your life like outside of work?
My husband Alex and I enjoy organizing dinners for our friends, exercising and exploring new restaurants in Frankfurt in our free time. I really enjoy cooking and use it as my go to stress reliever and creativity booster — I love experimenting with new tastes and ingredients. If I have trouble falling asleep I love listening to society, culture and philosophy podcasts. In my heart, I am still a scientist and love watching nature documentaries, especially Shark Week.
