6,000 participants. 72 hours. One problem.
Over the summer, ZS brought together budding data scientists from more than 100 online schools to solve a real-life problem in the third annual ZS Data Science Challenge in India.
Since its launch in 2016, the ZS Data Science Challenge has helped connect the firm with some of the most talented new minds in data science. The challenge gives students a glimpse into the advanced data science work ZS does for clients. In addition to gaining project experience and showcasing their skills, participants have the chance meet the leaders, learn about ZS’s culture and career opportunities, and potentially land on the fast-track to an interview for a full-time data science role.
The 2018 India competition kicked off with an online challenge. After being presented with a complex problem, more than 6,000 participants built models using sample datasets and submitted their solution. A panel of ZSers scored submissions based on each candidate’s codes and approach. More than 785 candidates were shortlisted, and 240 of them scored above the set baseline scores.
Top candidates—42 in total—were then invited to participate in an in-person “data-a-thon”—a two-day event that invited finalists to ZS’s Capability and Expertise Center. During the second round, candidates solved a predictive analytics problem and presented their solution to a panel of ZSers.
In the end, the top candidates won more than just prizes. They also received pre-placement interview letters for ZS’s data science team in advance of the campus placement season, thus expediting their interview process.
Interviews are already in progress and ZS’s Capability & Expertise Center is excited to welcome the newest group of data scientists who will enable client impact across industries through next generation advanced analytics.
