Mentoring Moments: How David Uses Collaboration to Grow

Posted by ZS on Aug 25, 2017 3:50:10 PM

ZS is known for having a welcoming culture with collaboration at its core. For business consultant David, the tight, collaborative bond shared among ZSers became clear during the interview process.

Halfway through his second interview, the fire alarm went off in the building, forcing the entire Toronto office to evacuate. While they waited, David had the unique chance to talk to and get to know ZSers in a more informal setting.

Just like in his client work, the soon-to-be ZSer turned an unexpected twist into an opportunity – and made a positive impression.

Namita’s path from politics to principal

Posted by ZS on Aug 17, 2017 10:00:00 AM

One day, 20-year-old Namita picked up the phone, called the White House and confidently asked to speak with someone on the President’s Council of Economics. To her surprise, she was transferred to an intern advisor. The unpaid internship she landed led to a fulltime position after she graduated from college, and her experience, she says, is what ultimately led her to ZS.

Hoping to find a broader business application for her skills beyond government, Namita began attending business school at Duke University and discovered consulting. When she asked fellow MBA candidates where they had interned, a number of them said ZS. “I remember thinking ‘I really like all these ZS people. I need to know more about this company!’,” she said.

After 20 Years, Jeanne Found Career Freedom at ZS

Posted by ZS on Aug 10, 2017 11:00:00 AM

I joined ZS as a principal two years ago, and it has been one of the best career decisions I’ve made. It was ZS's entrepreneurial spirit that drew me in. I told ZS what I wanted to do and the team said, “Great. How can we help?” I was given the freedom to chart my own path and build a practice—all focused on the things I love to do.

What I've realized since joining, however, is that ZS's culture is so much more than just entrepreneurial. Having worked in consulting for the past 20 years, I know when I’ve found a place that’s truly supportive and collaborative. ZS has a spirit of collaboration with no parallel. In lots of ways, I'm doing similar work to what I've done in the past, but it's the internal piece that’s really different. At other firms, I’ve felt that we were always on our own, working to bring in business and deliver it. It was a race for revenue. Here it's completely different. It's highly supportive and collaborative, and we’re all genuinely focused on doing the right thing.

Technically speaking with Niroop

Posted by ZS on Aug 9, 2017 12:15:43 PM

Principal Niroop has always been a “tech guy”. After spending two years as a software engineer at large company, he began seeking a job at a startup where his contributions could have a more tangible impact. He wanted something smaller, and he got exactly what he wished for.

After a friend sent Niroop a job opening at ZS’s newly opened Pune office, he applied and quickly went from working at one of the world’s largest tech companies to our then 40-person Capability and Expertise Center in India.

Balance and Support Have Roz Seeing a Long-Term Future at ZS

Posted by ZS on Jul 19, 2017 3:30:00 PM

When I was at London Business School, I got an invitation for tea and coffee from someone at ZS. I came in with a background in pharmaceuticals and hadn't really considered consulting before. I decided to meet the person and see what they had to say. From that first meeting, it was talking to other ZSers that drew me in—it all sounded great. I loved the idea of helping clients and was keen to work somewhere where I could continue focusing on healthcare.

Among the Stars: How Carolyn Brings Her Passions into Her Work

Posted by ZS on Jul 12, 2017 2:28:53 PM

ZSers are smart, energetic contributors who come from all walks of life. But even in a group as talented and diverse as ZS, not many people can say they helped design the robotic arm that helps move modules from space shuttles onto the International Space Station.

Carolyn can. She trained as an aerospace engineer in the field of space robotics and used to work for the International Space Station program, designing the controls systems for the Canadarm, a remote-controlled robotic arm.

Forecasting leader proves ZS careers defy prediction

Posted by ZS on May 19, 2017 4:27:20 PM

“I’m a home-grown ZSer,” says Judith. “I started right out of Cal [UC Berkeley] with my industrial engineering and operations research degree and have been here ever since.”

It’s not a situation she would have predicted.

Raised in Northern California, Judith was referred to ZS by a Berkeley classmate who worked for the firm. “I was happy to get in the door, and I was impressed with the people I met during the interview process,” she recalled. “I thought it was a great company, but I was naïve about the true extent of the opportunities available here.”

Judith admits that she started at ZS thinking consulting was a job she would keep for a few years until she figured out “what she wanted to do when she grew up.” That was over 16 years ago. “I didn't know then that it was the perfect place for me to build my career,” she said.
